Lately, the annual Perseid meteor shower has, for me, become been elusive. I used to be able to sit in my backyard in mid-August and see the streaking meteors. But no longer. Too much light pollution, too much pollution of other kinds too. In 2015, I stared and strained and failed to see a single streak in the sky. A new year beckons, so I have resolved to start an annual Perseid paddling expedition. What better place to study the heavens than an isolated lake? This year (2016) is not expected to be a prime viewing opportunity. The moon will not be helpful (and of course, it could always be cloudy). But plans are being made. Below is a link to a site with advice on how, when and where to watch. I will be staring at the sky from a remote location to be determined. Advice welcome.
